Some useful information to help you plan your shoot in Glasgow

Glasgow Film Office are happy to advise on crews, facilities, travel times, accommodation, weather and any other questions you have about shooting in Glasgow, Scotland.

FUNDING

Thinking of locating your project in Glasgow? Glasgow Film Office can provide support to productions by offering the services of a local location scout to search for locations or to accompany key personnel during a recce. This gives production teams the chance to see what Glasgow has to offer in terms of locations, crew and facilities.

If you decide to shoot in the city, Glasgow Film Office can offer a subsidy toward the hire of local facilities/services for productions based in Glasgow. Please email info@glasgowfilm.com for further details and conditions of eligibility for these funds.

The above funds are limited and directed towards fully budgeted productions with remunerated crew.

INCENTIVES

Scotland is part of the UK and, therefore, all UK tax incentives and UK co-production treaties apply in Scotland. Further information can be found on the British Film Commission website.

CREW & FACILITIES

Glasgow plays host to numerous features and TV dramas each year and both BBC and STV have their headquarters in Glasgow. This has helped to create a crew base of 600+ skilled freelancers in almost all grades and departments. Glasgow also possesses a robust facilities and services sector, including state of the art sound and picture post-production facilities.

LOW/NO BUDGET FILMMAKING

Modern technology has made film production, editing and distribution accessible to more and more aspiring filmmakers.  We are happy to offer advice and suggestions where possible, however, it is an inescapable fact that some aspects of the filming process will incur costs, e.g. most privately owned locations.  With this in mind we have produced a basic factsheet with tips on how to make the most of your limited budget.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Glasgow benefits from close access to 3 international airports (Glasgow International is 15 minutes from the city centre, Glasgow Prestwick, 45 minutes and Edinburgh, 1 hour). Glasgow International has direct flights from 100 destinations, many low cost European connections and most European destinations are within 2 hours' travel time. Flights to London are around one hour.
